Take-Two Interactive has sold its independent games publishing label Private Division to an undisclosed buyer. The purchase price was not disclosed. CEO and chairman Strauss Zelnick told investors (via PC Gamer) that the decision was not based on "flops", but rather the fact that even the "biggest hits" were not big enough. "The titles, though big, were not big in the context of our core intellectual properties at 2K and Rockstar," the CEO is quoted as saying. Take-Two does not see itself as a "long tail company" but as a "top ten hit maker" and Private Division would not fit into that strategy. Incidentally, the sale of Private Division was not mentioned in last quarter's press release.
