In a few weeks, gamescom latam will make its debut in São Paulo, Brazil. Preparations for the show are in full swing, as is the BIG Festival, one of the new event's main attractions. BIG Festival stands for Best International Games Festival, which is why the shortlist announced today includes many developers from around the world.

A total of 114 titles, half of which are from international teams, are in with a chance of winning one of the festival's 17 categories. In total, 922 games from 74 countries were submitted.

"Seeing over 900 entrants from more than 70 different countries is a testament to the gamescom latam Big Festival significance in the gaming industry," says Gustavo Steinberg, celebrating the partnership with gamescom and the event's expanded global impact.

The shortlist does indeed span the globe: there are teams from the USA and Canada as well as from Australia, China, India, South Korea and Taiwan. The European nominees include studios from Belgium and the Netherlands, Spain and France, Italy, Sweden, Poland and the UK, as well as Germany and Austria.

Two productions from Germany stand out: Sibel's Journey by Food for Thought Media from Berlin and Harold Halibut by Slow Bros. from Cologne have been shortlisted in various categories. Sibel's Journey, for example, has been nominated in all three 'BIG Impact' categories - Education, Social Matters and Diversity. It is also in with a chance of winning in the Best Mobile Game category.

Harold Halibut is nominated in the categories of 'Best Story', 'Best Sound', 'Best Art' and 'Best Game'. In both the Best Art and Best Game categories, it is up against Inkulinati, which was developed by Polish studio Yaza Games but published by German company Daedalic Entertainment.

Fortunately, there are other companies from the GSA that can hope to win an award at gamescom latam: VR Giants by Risa Interactive from Graz, Austria, and Crumbling by Crumbling Games from Hamburg, Germany, are shortlisted in the Best XR/VR category.

Footgun: Underground, developed by Turtle Knight Games and published by German indie label Cobratekku Games (BXDXO), is shortlisted in the Innovation category. Last but not least, Magical Delicacy by German solo developer saule (Steven Kaule), published by US indie Whitethorn Games, is in the running for Best Casual Game.
